registration reminder

Steve Green (WI), responding to last week’s newsletter, writes: “Amazingly enough, forty years ago this week I was playing and singing ‘Satisfaction’ with my band (the one on the TJ web site). This past Saturday night in a suburb of Milwaukee , I played and sang it again! Who’d have thunk it! Haven’t registered yet but will send in shortly.”

Which is, of course, a good reminder to all: if you haven’t registered yet, please do so “shortly.”

some reunion-related questions

Sandra Jones Kerr ( Richmond ), one of our recently “found” classmates, wonders how many reunions she missed, adding that she “didn’t mean to end up on the ‘lost’ list.” In case anyone else is wondering, if you got to our 10th and 20th reunions, you haven’t missed any. What’s also terrific is that we have classmates planning to come in October for what will be their first TJ reunion ever!

Sandra Miller Burtner ( Hagerstown , MD ) is still working as a public health nurse. Married after graduating from UVA in 1969, she and her husband have two grown children and two “fantastic grandchildren.” She wonders if it would be possible to see a list of classmates planning to come to the reunion. Yes. We expect to post a list on the website at some point. Stay tuned. Meanwhile, register soon (are you picking up the theme here?) so your name will be on that list!

Bob Blinn ( Portsmouth ) writes: “I was only at TJ for one year (senior year), so my memories are somewhat limited. Homeroom

with Miss Pitt – she was her own special person. English with Miss Lowance, trig with Mrs. Wanderer. Good memories. Mrs. Wanderer made it a pleasure to do homework. Same with Miss Lowance – she made me want to do more. Then there was a civics or social studies class. We cut up a lot. There was a guy – I think his name was Bill – from Baltimore . ‘You can’t roller skate in a buffalo herd.’ He was fun. What was the teacher’s name?”

was there someone you envied?

Mary Ellen Navas and Judie Reed both wished they could play tennis like Kim Parrish. And Ronnie Feibish Thomas recalls “being so envious of those gals who sang so beautifully together in the Jeffettes.” Are there classmates you envied or wanted to be like? Let us know!

also let us know …

  • Where were you on 9/11? Except for those who were ill – or maybe playing hooky – we were mostly together at 4100 W. Grace Street when JFK was assassinated. But what were you doing the morning of 9/11? How did you hear the news? How did you respond?

  • What do you think were the most pressing questions or greatest challenges we faced in our high school years? And what do you think are the most serious questions and challenges we face today?

These are more serious questions than some – but they are ones worth sharing ideas about. As always, feel free to say a little or a lot. But do let us hear from you – about these questions, or about anything else on your mind. Email forty65@hotmail.com. Thanks!
