March 31, 2012 email announcement

Yes, our Class of 65 turns 65’ celebration is going to the “Rivah” - the James River that is - on Saturday, June 30, 2012 from 11am to 4pmThis is the first time you, your kids, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, siblings, etc. will all be able to share time together with your TJ Class of 1965.  They have probably heard about us, now they can meet many of your classmates.

Saturday, June 30, 2012 will be at the Henricus Historical Park .  Here is the website with all the details à www.Henricus.org.  The James River Boat Tours are on the Discovery Barge II with Captain Mike Ostrander at the helm (www.DiscoverTheJames.com).  This will be a day of history, fun, and time together again.  Watching the eagles soar is fantastic.

The costs of $35 per adult and $15 for children ages 5-15 (kids under 5 are free) is all inclusive for your entire day of entry to the park, parking, fun, history, guided tours, lots of delicious food, and the James River Tour.  Jonathan Austin will be entertaining with his juggling, magic, and more from noon to 3:00 p.m. - fun for all ages.

Sunday, July 1, 2012 we will again have our “good and welfare” and “recovery” delicious brunch at the Westwood Club (www.WestwoodClub.net) from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.   This has always been a highlight of the weekend as your classmates have a chance to stand up and speak from the heart.  You might call this the “TJ Class of 1965 ‘Open Mike’!”  The brunch costs is $25 per person.

Your committee has worked very hard to make this a great fun weekend together, plus give you time to visit others while in town for the weekend.  Mark your calendars now and look for the invitation in the mail soon.  If by chance your address or email has change over the past year or two, please go to our Class web site (www.TJClassof1965.com) and update your information.   If you know of any classmates that may have moved recently, please remind them to connect with us to make the changes.

Class news comes from all of you; so, continue to send us your updates.  If you can’t wait for the formal invitation to arrive in your mailbox, you can RSVP with your checks to the TJ Class of 1965 at P.O. Box 29127, Henrico, VA 23242 - be sure to include the names of everyone planning to attend as we have to give the names to the Park Rangers for badges to wear throughout the park for the day.

These events come with a lot of hard work and expense.  There are numerous opportunities to sponsor any part of the weekend, from the parking to the tent, to the Boat Tours, to the koozies, or just any contributions to help defray the costs are appreciated.  If you wish to talk with me privately please call 804-740-1555 at your convenience.

Thanks for being the best class anywhere ever.  It has been a great joy to be one of your committee leaders for all these years.  My hats off to Charles Douglass for all he does to maintain our fabulous website and information flow; Betty Cox Thompson and Janie Huske Satterfield for jumping in and planning all the activities we cram into a weekend.  Nothing we do happens without their attention to detail and efforts.  Thanks again for everything.

We have preferred hotel rates for the weekend at the Westin Hotel 6631 West Broad Street , Richmond , Virginia   23230 (link to Westin’s TJ events page à Thomas Jefferson High School Class 1965).  The direct number to the hotel is 804.282.8444 and be sure to ask for the TJ Class of 1965 rate.

See you on the Rivah.

Regards,

John Jay &  your TJ Class of 1965 Committee
